Nearby on a stone banister there are a dozen or so carved wooden design tablets. The blocks are old, possibly very old. The patina of the wood is dark, shiny and rich from years of oil and flame. There are images of the Monkey King, curling snakes, magical monograms and outstretched leaping tigers. The tiger seems to be the most popular.
