These three all use a motor but are incorrectly
called a "Rotary" because
they produce reciprocating linear motion.
The needle bar does not "rotate"
around the drive shaft.

This distinction is more than just "names" because the history
of tattoo as it was needs to be remembered and passed
on to the next generation.
Otherwise everything gets forgotten.
There is a long history and denegration of "rotary" machines and those who used them because they came from and were used in  prisons.  In those days the quality was lacking.
The same stigma was attached to anyone calling a tattoo machine a "gun" and for the same reason.
